NV Bereche, Reflet d'Antan Champagne (2018 base) 1.5L

When it comes to Grower Champagne, few have managed to separate themselves from the pack—by virtue of their genius or their talent for making Champagne of unique expressiveness. Two who have are the brothers, Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche.

Bereche's Reflet d'Antan - now released only in magnum - is a blend of 30% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot noir, 35% Meunier from 30+ year old vines. Each year they take 2/3 of the best barrels, a perpetual reserve for 3 generations.

When I observed that this rendition is more refined as well as considerably less oxidative in profile than Reflet d’Antan of yesteryear, Raphaël told me that he has been making a very strict selection of which barrels in the reserve are retained, with this objective in mind.
